Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, Nursing Assistants provide empathic care to patients, families, and visitors with integrity and respect. Under RN supervision, they communicate with patients and visitors to convey treatment information, encourage comfort, and support those who may feel despondent or apprehensive.
Responsibilities- Change simple dressings as directed, give enemas, douches, and irrigations as directed.
- Apply hot water bottles, aqua K pads, ice bags, and coolers, and hot and cold compresses as directed.
- Chart and document care and/or behaviors as required.
- Take temperatures, pulse rates, blood pressure and respiration rate.
- Attend to daily living activities, personal hygiene, and simple human needs to maintain a comfortable care environment.
- Feed patients requiring assistance to ensure proper nourishment.
- Bathe and dress, brush teeth, and trim fingernails and toenails of patients.
- Maintain patients’ rights, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Perform housekeeping and cleaning duties related to direct care to keep the facility clean, sanitary, and properly supplied.
- Required:
Possession of or ability to acquire necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities during the probationary period. - Required:
One year of satisfactory full‑time experience in simple treatment and patient care services under professional supervision. - Preferred: NYS Certified Nursing Assistant license or certification from an approved program, one year of patient care experience, and a High School Diploma or GED.
- Pre‑employment physical examination and medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine’s Employee Health Services.
- Electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references.
- 4‑panel drug screen.
- Meet regulatory requirements for pre‑employment screenings.
- Provide any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
