At Stony Brook Medicine, a TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist is a valuable member of our team, who provides clinical services to our patient population. Duties and Responsibilities- Perform Blood Bank Technologist duties including routine test analysis, adhere to departmental policies and protocols, and apply detailed scientific knowledge to perform advanced level testing in the Blood Bank.
- Perform and understand quality control procedures; ensure reagents and equipment are within quality standards; review the accuracy of final test reports.
- Identify routine laboratory problems, determine causes, and take corrective actions following laboratory protocol; escalate as needed to supervisors.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the professional field as required to perform duties.
- Assist supervisory staff in teaching medical technology students and others in laboratory theory and technique.
- Understand and apply standards and regulations from FDA, NYS Department of Health, and other accrediting bodies.
- Maintain safe laboratory practices per NYS Department of Health and OSHA requirements.
- Utilize computer systems for department operations, including maintenance and troubleshooting where applicable.
- May fill in for the shift supervisor as needed, with thorough familiarity of administrative and technical policies.
- Under supervision, perform emergency test procedures in life-threatening situations and initiate the Blood Bank Disaster plan if required in the supervisor’s absence.
Required
:
- SL-1: NYS licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or eligible (provisional/limited permit) with 0-2 years relevant experience.
- SL-2: NYS licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or eligible (provisional/limited permit) with 3-5 years relevant experience.
- SL-3: NYS licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or eligible (provisional/limited permit) with a minimum of 6 years relevant experience.
Preferred
:
- MT (ASCP) Certification or equivalent; additional Blood Bank experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of Mediware Hemocare and/or Well Sky Transfusion.
- Experience in automated Blood Bank including Immucor Galileo/Galileo Echo.
