Overview
Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, a TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist/ Technician is a valuable member of our team, who provides clinical services to our patient population. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.
Maintains knowledge of safe laboratory practices endorsed by the New York State Department of Health and Occupational Safety and Health Administration and conducts oneself in a manner consistent with those practices to ensure the safety of all lab personnel.
Responsibilities- Line responsibility for the performance of clinical analysis in the Department of Laboratories.
- Perform routine instrument maintenance and troubleshooting according to established protocols to ensure proper instrument performance.
- Adhere to all quality control policies and procedures.
- Proficient in computer protocols as assigned.
- Adhere to all SBUH and departmental policies and protocols.
- Perform high complexity coagulation/chemistry testing using both manual and automated methods.
- Perform assays consisting of multiple dilutions requiring impeccable technique.
- Assist in implementing and validating new procedures.
- Actively engage in continuing education to enhance the department, including a willingness to attend conferences and offsite training whenever possible.
- Interact in a professional manner with nursing staff, physicians, support staff, peers and other members of the hospital community.
- Perform other clinical duties as assigned.
- Incumbent will be required to work every other weekend. Pass days and holidays as assigned.
Required:
SL-1: NYS licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or documented eligibility, including provisional/limited permit eligibility with 0-2 years demonstrated relevant experience.
SL-2: NYS licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or documented eligibility, including provisional/limited permit eligibility with 3-5 years demonstrated relevant experience.
SL-3: NYS licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or documented eligibility, including provisional/limited permit eligibility with a minimum 6 years demonstrated relevant experience.
Preferred:
Generalist with a strong background in Hematology and Chemistry. ASCP Certification. Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology/Biological or Life Sciences. Master’s Degree.
