Job Description - Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Full-time Night Shift (2504798)
At Stony Brook Medicine, our Emergency Medical Technicians are valuable members of our team who, under the supervision of an attending physician, provide life support services and transport patients in need of emergency hospital care. Emergency Medical Technicians provide basic life support in an out-of-hospital care setting.
Responsibilities- Assist Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic) and other medical care providers in the provision of advanced level medical care.
- Coordinate transport; operate the ambulance; maintain transportation equipment and assure the availability of adequate supplies.
- Provide administrative support to the Emergency Services Coordinator as needed.
- Perform other duties as related to the Emergency Medical Service transportation service as assigned.
Required
:
- New York State Health Department certification as an Emergency Medical Technician and the appropriate New York State driver’s license for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Preferred
:
- One or more of the following certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS), Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS), Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS), National Registry.
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At this time, agencies may recruit and hire employees by making temporary appointments. In May 2024, if a temporary NY HELPS employee is satisfactorily performing in the position, the appointment will be changed from temporary pending Civil Service Action to permanent non-competitive and the official probationary period will begin.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
