Position: Plant Utilities Engineer 1 (HVAC) - Full Time Day Shift

Overview

Plant Utilities Engineer 1 (HVAC) - Full Time Day Shift. Position involves operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, testing and calibrating mechanical and electrical equipment that provide heat, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical distribution. May supervise staff or contractors and participate in energy conservation projects.

Responsibilities
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, test and calibrate mechanical and electrical equipment providing heat, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical distribution in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Make recommendations on major overhauls and replacement of equipment and identify, recommend, and develop energy conservation projects.
  • May supervise subordinate staff in the operation and maintenance of heating facilities and mechanical equipment.
  • May supervise contractors in an emergency or project situation and may be responsible for the operation of the overall physical plant.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

One of the following qualifications must be met on or before the filing date:

  • Graduate of heating, HVAC, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration apprenticeship program from the U.S. Air Force;
  • Enlisted machinery technician (MK) or a certificate as a Marine Engineer issued by the U.S. Coast Guard;
  • Enlisted power generation equipment repairer with the U.S. Army;
  • Enlisted gas turbine systems technician, submarine nuclear propulsion plant operator reactor control, utilities man, machinist mate, or engine man with the U.S. Navy;
  • Merchant mariner's document (MMD) with qualification as an engine department member (QMED) as an oiler, fireman/water tender, refrigerating engineer or engine man with the U.S. Merchant Marine;
  • Completion of NYS Department of Labor apprenticeship program for stationary engineers or for plant maintenance (plumber/steamfitter), HVAC Mechanic or plant maintenance (refrigeration/AC);
  • High-pressure boiler operating Engineer License or Stationary Engineer License;
  • Associate's degree in HVAC from an accredited college;
  • Bachelor's degree in Facilities Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical or Marine Engineering;
  • Four years or more of full-time hands-on experience in maintenance and operation of commercial/industrial/institutional facilities, digital energy platforms/building analytics, and/or HVAC system/boiler maintenance and repair;
  • Four years or more of full-time hands-on residential HVAC diagnosis, operation, maintenance and repair experience;
  • Completion of a HVAC certificate or diploma from a BOCES program (900 hours) or an approved certificate in HVAC, electrical, refrigeration, boiler operations and maintenance, or plumbing from an accredited technical school.
Preferred Qualifications

Valid NYS driver’s license. Experience in a hospital/healthcare setting.
