Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Three (3) years of full-time administrative work experience (student experience may be considered). Experience in higher education or in an organization focused on languages/globalization/international engagement or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience working with interns in a leadership capacity. Experience developing programs for college audiences. Experience managing/producing virtual meetings and events. Experience working with diverse populations. Presentation experience. Experience with a language other than English. Project management skills. Experience with computer applications to include experience using databases and spreadsheets to track information and/or develop reports.

Brief Description of Duties:

This new role will create a partnership between the Career Center and the College of Arts & Sciences to create and manage an internship program for world languages and cultural studies programs. Successful candidates will have a growth mindset, strong work ethic, creativity, resourcefulness, and outstanding communication skills. You are culturally competent, understanding the cultural and experiential differences that impact the student experience, and you can communicate effectively across cultures.

  • Direct Client Service: Provide individual and group career coaching for undergraduate and graduate students in languages and cultural studies programs for a variety of career needs: exploration, experience, networking, and job search strategy. Utilize multiple methods of service delivery, including F2F and virtual.
  • Programming: Design and implement F2F and online career readiness and preparation programs, in collaboration with the faculty, and engaging alumni/employer partners.
  • Administration: Partner with faculty on credit‑bearing experiences, manage administrative procedures. Gather and monitor data for all experiences and post‑graduate outcomes, as well as career readiness, skill acquisition, and other metrics as directed. Assess and evaluate student learning outcomes from these experiences. Create reports as directed by faculty and administrators in partner departments.
  • Professional Development and Committee Involvement: Participate in opportunities that promote your learning, growth, and development (i.e. classes, training, committee, webinar, etc.). Contribute to the Division of Student Affairs and Stony Brook University by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs sponsored by areas outside of your individual unit/department (i.e. campus wide traditions, events, programs, etc.).
