Diesel Mechanic Trainee Entry Level

Overview

Immediately hiring a permanent full-time Diesel Technician Trainee. This role is entry level and does not require prior experience to be hired. This position offers paid training to become a Ryder Diesel Mechanic Technician in Stoneham, Massachusetts.

• Move heavy-duty vehicles and position them as needed in yards, wash bays, service shops, or delivery areas.
• Wash and detail vehicles manually or with automated equipment; fuel diesel, natural gas, and hybrid vehicles safely and accurately; record fuel activity and maintain inventories and reconciliation.
• Perform multi-point inspections on inbound units as required by company policies; check tire pressure and tread, fluid levels, lights, wash windows, change tires, inspect refrigeration units, and report issues to the shop.
• Maintain the fuel island area to Six Sigma standards; assist with facility maintenance and minor repairs as assigned.
• Attend and complete Technician Training Development Program requirements and assessments (hands-on and online). The program includes:
  Service Island Training, multi-point inspection, vehicle fueling and washing, environmental safety and spill response, safe driving, 6S standards, preventive maintenance, tires and wheels, service bay tools, HD electrical, air and hydraulic brakes, and related tasks.
• Other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Zero to one year of mechanical experience with diesel engines preferred.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Proficiency in English (written and verbal).
• Demonstrated customer service skills and strong technical aptitude with ability to learn and use equipment and machinery.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems; the role requires working independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to represent Ryder professionally with employees and customers; strong time management and priority-setting skills.
• Competency in basic computer skills and Microsoft Office.
• Beginner knowledge of machines, tools, and shop management systems preferred.
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A, preferred.
• DOT safety regulated position; safety-sensitive position with hours and age requirements governed by state law.

• Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire.
• Pass a Ryder drug test, a DOT physical, and a Ryder road test.
• Pass a Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification for the last three years.
