Title:
Interpreter, ESOL
The DeKalb County School District is seeking an experienced and professional 12 Month Interpreter, ESOL. Salary Grade/
Schedule:
115.

Under general supervision, supports parents and students at the International Student Screening Center as well as the local school with interpretation and translation services.
Essential Functions- Provides year-round interpretation during registration for school-based and district needs, such as (but not limited to) Parent/Teacher Conferences, SST/RTI Meetings, 54 Meetings, Due Process Hearings, and Telephone Conferences (12-month/246 workday position)
- Translates documents such as (but not limited to) letters and notices to parents, school brochures, permission slips, and newsletters
- Collaborates with schools to establish effective communication between school and home
- Assists families in obtaining and completing necessary registration documents
- Conducts screening of the new students with the WIDA Screener and W-APT test
- Completes student enrollment by entering data into the Infinite Campus
- Maintains knowledge of current relevant federal and state regulations as they relate to the registration of EL students
- Maintains compliance with all related rules, regulations, and legal requirements; maintains a record of encounters/translations as required by Title VI of the Civil rights Act of 1964
- Collaborates with schools to establish effective communication between school, home, and community partners
- Collaborates with district and school-based personnel in the development and implementation of the policies and procedures regarding PHLOTES and ESOL students
- Provides support for parents and students during Title III extended-year programs
- Assists with developing programs and procedures to improve registration and parent workshops
- Performs other duties as assigned
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree in Foreign Language, Education, or closely related area from a Georgia Professional Standards Commission approved accredited college or university preferred.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience working with PHLOTE population required.
- Must be bilingual and biliterate.
- Certificate of completion in interpretation training (Medical and/or Education Setting Interpretation) from one of the following, preferred:
- University of Georgia
- American Translators Association
- National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators
- Georgia Commission on Interpreters o Atlanta Association of Interpreters & Translators
