Decontamination Driver – Sterile Services

Salary: £24,358.47 per annum

Hours:

37.5 hours per week – Saturday 1 in 4

Shift Pattern:
Rotated weekly – Mornings 04:00‑12:00, Mid Shift 10:30‑18:30, Afternoon 13:30‑21:30, Out of hours 19:00‑07:00 (30% premium)

Responsibilities
  • Drive our 7.5T vehicles across the Midlands to collect and deliver medical instrumentation.
  • Three hospitals per route – collect and deliver.
  • Act as an ambassador for the unit – first point of contact for customers, consistently exceeding expectations.
  • Deliver and collect trolleys to hospitals to enable theatre surgeries.
  • Help keep equipment in good working order and report any faults.
  • Keep a clean, tidy work environment and identify stock issues as they arise.
  • Maintain accurate tachograph records and documentation.
  • Be flexible with working hours.
  • Computer literate.
  • Manage time according to Driver Regulations.
  • Maintain vehicles – clean and roadworthy inside and out.
  • Drive safely and follow current road and traffic legislation; notify line manager of any defects, damage, or incidents.
Skills and Experience
  • Full driving licence, including C1 entitlement (up to 7.5 t GVW).
  • CPC qualification.
  • Basic knowledge of driver hour legislation and Driver Digital Tachograph card (training provided).
  • Physically fit with basic manual handling – able to move transport trolleys weighing upwards of 250 kg.
  • Experience in-house within HSSU – basic housekeeping and dispatch to trolley.
  • Computer literate (necessary).
  • Basic general education with proven literacy and numeracy.
  • Evidence of sterile services training advantageous but not essential.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Attention to detail and strong service orientation.
  • Good customer skills – face of Nuffield HSSU.
