Our Child Exploitation & Navigator Services aim to prevent, reduce and stop child exploitation and violence through awareness‑raising amongst young people and their families. In addition we provide training for professionals including partner agencies, education placements, care home provisions and community settings.

Job Description

As a Navigator & Tailored Support Youth Worker you will be providing support to children and young adults (CYA) who are victims of, at risk of or involved in serious/youth violence. Support will predominantly occur at ‘reachable moments’ in custody settings and hospital sites within the county of Staffordshire.

Your main duties will include:

  • Responding to notifications received from designated custody settings at reachable moments where violence is a factor related to arrests made. (Northern Area Custody Facility & Watling Street Custody Facility)
  • Responding to notifications received from designated health settings at reachable moments where violence is a factor related to injuries sustained. (Royal Stoke A&E Department & Queens Hospital Burton alongside 5 additional Walk in Centre’s across Stoke-on-Trent & Staffordshire)
  • Identifying risk and support needs of CYA engaged through Navigator interventions (and their families/significant others where necessary) and signposting/referring onto specialist support services to mitigate the occurrence of future incidents.
  • Completing dynamic risk assessments to ensure the safety and protection of CYA engaged, their families/significant others and professionals involved.
  • Developing and sustaining productive working relationships with partner agencies and sharing information to safeguard individuals linked to violence including:
    Police intelligence, safeguarding referrals, Child Exploitation Processes.
  • Undertaking short term one to one interventions with CYA where additional support is required, following Navigator involvement or where referrals are received from external sources.
  • Creating collaborative action plans and risk reduction plans which will, where necessary, include family members and significant others using a solution focused, holistic approach, capturing outcomes through the use of the Outcome Star tool.
  • Conducting Educational Awareness training within partner agencies to increase understanding of youth violence and associated harms (including exploitation, knife crime, trafficking and criminality)
  • Completing all required monitoring information within set timescales to assist the production of feedback reports and case studies to funders and stakeholders to track and monitor progress against outcome targets and Key Performance Indicators.
Other

Attend and engage in regular supervision and appraisal sessions for continued personal and professional development and attend relevant training courses and networking sessions as agreed with the line manager.

To act as an ambassador for Catch
22, upholding and promoting our corporate values and to participate in publicity events promoting the service at local level.

Be willing to work on a flexible rota system to meet the demands of the service which will include some evenings and weekends.

To carry out such other relevant duties, as may be required and as are commensurate with the nature and grading of the post.

Qualifications

Minimum 5 GCSE’s or equivalent, grade “C” or above.

Relevant professional qualification in Youth/community work, Social Care, Health or Education.

Knowledge of the issues affecting young people at risk of, involved in or victim to youth violence (including Child Exploitation).

Knowledge and understanding of Equality & Diversity issues.

Knowledge and understanding of Adult and Children Safeguarding Policy and procedures.

Experience of working directly with young people on level 2-4 on the continuum of need presenting a variety of support needs including keep safe work with those involved in violence.
