Laboratory Technician

Intertek is seeking a highly motivated and detail‑oriented Laboratory Technician with a passion for microbiology and food safety to join our team based in Stoke‑on‑Trent. This fixed‑term contract covers maternity leave and offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands‑on experience within a fast‑paced laboratory environment.

About you

Ideal for someone with a strong interest in microbiology, a methodical approach to work, and the ability to manage tasks effectively in a deadline‑driven setting. Required skills and experience
  • Knowledge of ISO
    17025 applicable to the nutrition and allergens laboratory

    Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Adaptable and flexible work approach
  • Good numeracy and literacy
About WPOpportunity

You will register, prepare and test routine samples in line with customer expectations and, when required, assist in the development of new in‑house procedures. The role requires compliance with continuous improvement, adherence to the laboratory’s quality management system, and promotion of a strong quality and safety culture that reflects Intertek’s values and customer expectations.

Key activities
  • Conducting microbiological analysis of food samples using PCR, OBOP, and traditional culture methods
  • Maintaining accurate and up‑to‑date records of all tests and results
  • Participating in quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results
  • Adhering to laboratory safety protocols and maintaining a clean, organised work environment
  • Collaborating with other team members to ensure efficient laboratory operations
  • Keeping up to date with advances in microbiology and food testing methodologies
  • Ensuring routine and urgent analysis is performed and reported according to customer expectations
  • Continuously seeking improvement opportunities in the laboratory
  • Being accountable for stock levels
  • Monitoring and evaluating systems for improvement through waste reduction and efficiency
