Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the position of Anticoagulation Associate Practitioner in the North Midlands and Cheshire Pathology Service. The post holder will be required to perform a range of routine and non-routine healthcare science tasks within Anticoagulation.

Note: At present, University Hospitals of North Midlands is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 to Band 4 roles, as these positions do not meet the minimum salary and skill thresholds required under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations.

Responsibilities
  • The post holder will be required to perform a range of routine and non-routine healthcare science tasks within Anticoagulation, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) including the Pathology Quality Policy to provide technical support to Biomedical Scientists (BMS) and Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) in order to ensure a high quality service in all areas of anticoagulation. The tasks will include running of community based warfarin clinics, processing of anticoagulation referrals, sample preparation, operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and updating of information systems.
  • To work within the written Policies and Procedures of the Department especially in relation to Health and Safety and Quality. Assists with the monitoring of quality standards within the department.
  • Assists with the supervision and allocation of work to Anticoagulation Support Workers.
  • To be an efficient and flexible member of the team assisting in the delivery of the service.

Essential Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Clinical Laboratory Support or relevant equivalent, plus additional relevant theoretical or applied training to diploma equivalent level.
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development.

Desirable

  • Relevant foundation degree
  • IBMS Certificate of Achievement Part 2

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

  • Familiarity with Pathology IT systems
  • Previous experience of working with point of care equipment
  • Experience of training junior staff
  • Intermediate level of theoretical technical knowledge of the role
  • Basic analytical skills with an ability to work in a methodical and systematic way
  • Experience in working with the public
  • Understanding the importance of confidentiality and data quality
