University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust

Community Midwife

The closing date is 12 March 2026

A number of opportunities have arisen for dedicated and committed midwives to join the community midwifery team.

Community midwifery supports a wide geographical area. There are 5 community hubs based in community settings around Stoke‑on‑Trent and North Staffordshire. Community midwives benefit from working within small, well‑led teams. Each midwife has an allocated caseload and we maximise locality working by utilising family hubs, community hospitals and public buildings.

  • To maintain your intrapartum skills you will be supported to work on the Midwife Birth Centre and other inpatient areas. This will be based on individual needs to support your continued development.
  • We are looking for midwives who already have a UK NMC PIN number and are passionate about delivering high quality, safe care to women and birthing people.
  • We have permanent contracts for enthusiastic midwives to provide antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care.
  • You will need to be versatile and have excellent communication skills. Team working is an essential part of the role.
  • There is an expectation that the role will involve unsociable hours and on call to support homebirth and escalation.
  • Access to a vehicle and full UK drivers licence is required.
Main duties of the job

The midwife will participate in high quality care for women and their families, also providing mentorship and professional support to enable students and maternity support workers to do the same.

The midwife will have the opportunity to gain experience and maintain skills within antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care. There is also an expectation that the midwife will be involved in Continuity of Carer models that are already established.

The midwife works autonomously within Trust guidelines and sphere of professional practice with reference to departmental manager as appropriate. The midwife will work within their sphere of practice in accordance with NMC codes of practice and professional guidelines.
