Senior Training Fellow Respiratory Medicine

An exciting opportunity has arisen at the University Hospital of North Midlands to join the Respiratory Medicine team working at Royal Stoke University Hospital. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to provide care and diagnostic services for patients presenting with respiratory illnesses.

The successful candidates will complement the 21 Respiratory Consultants and 10 SpRs (training and non-training) expertise working in this specialty. The department provides both an inpatient, outpatient and day case Sleep & Ventilation Service, Interstitial Lung Disease, Cystic Fibrosis, Asthma, Lung Cancer, Pleural Procedures and General Respiratory services across both our sites.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to provide care and diagnostic services for patients presenting with respiratory illnesses.

The Respiratory Department is the regional centre for interstitial lung disease and non-invasive ventilation. The Respiratory Department consists of 4 Respiratory Wards with 115 inpatient beds, including a 26 bedded Acute Lung Unit with 16 NIV beds, 2 Respiratory Physiology Departments over 2 sites offering a range of lung function tests.

Job responsibilities

Role Summary
This post is not recognised as a formal training slot. However, the training opportunities will be the same as the other registrar level doctors within Respiratory Medicine.

Key Areas/Tasks

To participate in the provision of general and specialist respiratory services (inpatient and outpatient).

To assist in ward management including electronic discharges.

To contribute to the training of junior medical staff.

To assist in the undertaking of full clinical computerised audit within the department.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Awards/distinctions whilst studying for 1st degree
  • Academic and extracurricular achievements
Clinical Experience
  • NHS experience at ST1 level or equivalent experience
  • ALS
  • Senior Fellows will have appropriate skills & experience to demonstrate in the chosen specialty minimum equivalent to ST3.
Personal Characteristics
  • Evidence of continuing professional updating
  • Demonstrates a clear reason for wanting this role
  • Commitment to pursuing career in specialised medicine or related specialties
