An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 Urology Specialist Nurse - Cancer Nurse Specialist to join an empowered, skilled urological nursing team that work across both acute hospital sites, Royal Stoke & County Hospital.
This post will provide a holistic specialist service for both benign and cancer patients. The post holder will be an empowered and valued member of the multi-disciplinary team, acting as a key worker working across a range of protocol driven services underpinned by theory.
The ability to apply specialist knowledge across a range of procedures is essential as analytical and judgemental skills will require interpreting acute and other conditions, making comparisons of a range of actions required to optimise patient outcomes and, where necessary, liaising with other healthcare professionals to provide the best possible specialist care for urological patients.
Communication & Relationship Skills
The post holder will be required to
- Fulfil the role of key worker
- Advanced communication skills
- Run protocol driven nurse led cancer and benign clinics
- Administer intravesical instillations
- Interpret clinical and sensitive patient information
- Utilise Urological clinical skills
- Teach and empower other health care professionals
- Request pertinent investigations that help inform diagnosis and patient surveillance pathways
- Active member of urological cancer patient multi-disciplinary team
- Implement and contribute to the writing of standard operational policies and attend governance meetings
- Remain responsible for producing and updating patient information
- Responsible for holistic needs assessment
- Respond to departmental on-going developments
- Work unsupervised but managed
- Remain responsible for self and delegated tasks
- Recognise when help and guidance is required
- Direct patient care
- Participate in research and clinical trials
- Supportive of all Urological nursing roles
- Commit to educational programs required to fulfil succession planning departmental objectives
