Advanced Speech and Language Therapist

Are you a highly skilled HCPC Registered Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) ready to take the next step in your career?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Advanced Speech and Language Therapist within the Children's Speech and Language Therapy North Team.

You will have detailed professional and clinical knowledge in the assessment and management of speech, language, and communication needs of children and young people within Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire, and be responsible for a defined population of service users in a variety of settings across the Partnership Trust.

You will possess significant experience in assessment and management of children's SLCN.

Main duties of the job
  • To assess new service user referrals and care/support needs, and formulate, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of treatment/care/support for children, young people, families and carers.
  • To use expert knowledge and judgement to consider the range of care/support packages and treatment options available, taking into account the personal circumstances and preferences of children, young people and families in order to maintain and adjust programmes of care and intervention.
  • To maintain and develop skills and knowledge to deliver a range of interventions, and set an example of good practice for other team members, including skill sharing. Provides teaching/training in a specialist area to the wider workforce.
  • To maintain sensitivity at all times to the emotional needs of the children, young people, families and their carers, offering reassurance and empathy, particularly when imparting potentially distressing information, such as the nature/prognosis of their condition and implications of the same, and to manage any conflict that may arise.
  • To work with individuals and carers who may find it difficult to engage with the service or aspects of the services, resulting in uncooperative or challenging behaviour that must be managed.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent
  • Registration with HCPC
  • Further clinical study relevant to clinical practice
Experience
  • Significant experience in the clinical specialism including assessment and management of children's SLCN.
  • Ability to manage time and caseload effectively.
  • Significant experience of supporting children, young families and carers in promoting health and wellbeing.
  • Significant experience of managing and implementing change.
Knowledge
  • Understanding of Information Governance, Data Protection, HCPC standards and Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults and Children.
