Job Overview

The Paediatric Physiotherapy Service is looking to recruit a Band 3 Paediatric Physiotherapy Assistant within the Staffordshire & Stoke on Trent area. You will cover the whole county, so access to your own vehicle is necessary. In this role you will support the Paediatric Physiotherapy Team by undertaking tasks in the implementation of care packages and providing feedback. You will work under the direction of a registered practitioner, often without direct supervision.

This position will involve working with children and families from birth to 25 years with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychosocial conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Undertake specific skilled paediatric physiotherapy support work with children and families (aged birth to 25 years) with diverse presentations and complex physical conditions.
  • Support physiotherapists in discharge planning, environmental visits, ordering equipment, liaising with families and other agencies.
  • Apply skills, knowledge and competencies to recognise any change in the needs of the child or young person (CYP) and provide feedback to the registered practitioner.
  • Work without direct supervision but under the direction of qualified staff, undertaking tasks delegated by a qualified therapist, and taking responsibility for lone working.
  • Manage and prioritise a delegated/shared caseload.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and good communication within the Trust and with external partners, such as education; maintain sensitivity to the emotional needs of CYP and their families/carers, offering reassurance and empathy.
  • Work with individuals and carers who may find it difficult to engage with the service, managing uncooperative or challenging behaviour.
Qualifications Essential criteria
  • GCSE grade C (min) or equivalent in literacy and numeracy
  • NVQ level 2/3 or equivalent in related subject
  • Evidence of/willingness to undertake training relevant to the post
Desirable criteria
  • Willing to work towards NVQ level 3 or equivalent
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Essential criteria
  • Basic IT skills & Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work with children
  • Ability to organise own workload & be able to undertake a physically demanding role
UK Driving Licence & Access to Vehicle
