EDS / Electrical Design Engineer - Off-Highway Automotive
Location:
Cheadle, Staffordshire (Fully Onsite - no hybrid)
Contract:
Outside IR35
Duration: 3-month rolling contract (up to 12 months of work available)
Rate: £40-£50 per hour

Overview
An established off-highway / heavy vehicle automotive manufacturer is seeking an experienced EDS / Electrical Design Engineer to support ongoing vehicle programmes.
This is a hands-on, site-based role supporting full vehicle electrical architecture, wiring systems, and electrical integration. The role is fully onsite in Cheadle, and candidates must be able to attend site 5 days per week.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop Electrical Distribution Systems (EDS) for off-highway / heavy vehicle platforms
Produce and maintain:
Wiring diagrams and schematics
Harness designs and routing
Electrical architectures and network layouts
Support whole-vehicle electrical integration, working closely with:
Mechanical design
Systems engineering
Manufacturing and test teams
Generate and manage:
BOMs
Cable schedules
Connector and component specifications
Ensure compliance with relevant automotive and off-highway standards
Support prototype builds, fault finding, and design updates during development
Liaise with suppliers on harness manufacture and electrical components
Maintain design documentation and support engineering change activities
Essential Skills & Experience
Proven experience as an EDS / Electrical Design Engineer within:
Off-highway vehicles
Heavy vehicles
Construction, agricultural, defence, or specialist automotive platforms
Strong experience with vehicle wiring systems and electrical architectures
Competent producing schematics, harness drawings, and electrical documentation
Experience working on full vehicle programmes, not just components
Able to work fully onsite in Cheadle, Staffordshire
Immediately available or short notice
Tooling - Zuken Preferred, Alternatives Considered
Zuken (E3.series / CR-8000) - highly desirable
OR strong experience with transferable tools such as:
CATIA Electrical / Wiring Harness
Siemens NX Electrical
Solid Works Electrical / Solid Edge Electrical
Mentor / Siemens Xpedition (harness or system design)
Candidates with strong EDS fundamentals and comparable tooling experience will be considered
