We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Administrative Sales Assistant to provide essential support for our client in the Stoke on Trent area. This is a varied and fast-paced role at the heart of their day-to-day operations, combining front-of-counter customer service with administrative and sales support duties. The successful candidate will be a confident communicator, well-organised, and comfortable working in a busy trade environment.
Responsibilities
* Serve trade and retail customers face-to-face at the sales counter, providing product advice and ensuring a positive experience.
* Handle all incoming telephone enquiries promptly and professionally, directing calls where appropriate.
* Respond to customer emails in a timely manner, providing accurate quotations, product information, and order updates.
* Manage customer complaints sensitively and efficiently, escalating to a manager where necessary and following up to ensure resolution.
* Process customer payments accurately, including cash, card, and account transactions.
* Assist customers in calculating quantities of materials required for their projects, including paving, timber, aggregates, and other building products.
* Prepare and follow up on customer quotations to maximise sales conversion.
* Organise and prioritise a varied daily workload, managing competing demands across counter, telephone, and administrative tasks.
* Liaise with internal departments to check stock availability and delivery timescales.
Requirements
* Previous experience in a customer-facing role, ideally within a trade, retail, or administrative environment.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a polite and professional telephone manner.
* Numerically confident — comfortable with calculations and checking figures.
* Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and able to learn new systems quickly.
* A positive, can-do attitude and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Working days:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday's
Hourly Rate:
Starting at £12.21 (negotiable depending on experience)
Job Types: Full-time, Temp to perm
