Responsibilities- Be on time and prepared for work. Arrive five minutes before scheduled session or meeting; attend fitness staff meetings and requested meetings.
- Schedule and conduct private personal training sessions following Pacific Recreation protocols.
- Conduct initial consultations and fitness assessments using established protocols.
- Model, promote, and enforce campus recreation policies.
- Design exercise programs for a variety of participants by combining health goals with assessment results.
- Execute fitness-related personal training events and activities.
- Provide excellent customer service, answer client questions, and motivate participation in exercise programs.
- Maintain inventory of assessment and training equipment and make recommendations for future purchases.
- Assist with tours or sales for prospective clients and stay informed on current pricing options.
- Maintain accurate records of fitness assessments, exercise prescriptions, progress notes, and client concerns, while preserving confidentiality.
- Clock in/out for all hours worked and keep training floor safe, organized, and clean.
- Monitor participant safety during workouts, including heart rate, technique, posture, spine alignment, and joint stress during resistance training.
- Report major issues to professional staff and perform other duties as assigned.
- Three (3) months of experience as a personal trainer.
- Current fitness certification from a Pacific Recreation approved education association (e.g., ACSM, ACE, NASM, NSCA, AFFA, NFPT, NPTI, WITS).
- Current CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. In-house certification may be provided if necessary.
- Ability to create effective and safe exercise prescriptions for all fitness levels (novice to elite).
- Intermediate knowledge of physiology, exercise technique, and body mechanics.
- Ability to multi-task and train up to three clients in a session.
- Strong interpersonal, customer service, and motivational skills.
- Experience and sensitivity in working with diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Commitment to social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
- Ability to integrate culturally responsive practices into work.
Must have the strength to lift and move up to 40 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities to perform essential functions.
Work EnvironmentSessions may run Monday through Sunday, including early morning, afternoon, and evening hours. Schedule is flexible based on trainer/client availability and Baun Fitness Center hours.
