Volunteer Retail Assistant – Cash Desk Volunteer

Accountability:Deputy Head of Retail and Head of Retail

Location:Various across Teesside – Acklam, Coulby Newham, Great Ayton, Guisborough, Ingleby Barwick, Linthorpe, Marske, Norton, Redcar, Saltburn, Skelton, Stokesley, Thornaby and Yarm

Time Commitment:Our shops are generally open from 9am to 4.30pm Monday to Saturday. Time commitment and availability can be discussed and agreed with the Shop Manager. Where possible, we ask that all volunteers commit to a minimum of 3 hours per week.

Summary:

As a volunteer cashier, you will be at the heart of our operations, engaging with customers, handling payments, and expressing gratitude to our generous donors. Your responsibilities will include operating the till, answering customer inquiries, promoting Gift Aid, and collaborating with fellow volunteers to ensure efficient operations. This is a customer-focused role where you’ll have the opportunity to interact with a diverse range of people and make a positive impact.

Key Responsibilities:

• Engaging with customers and providing excellent service
• Answering questions from customers, donors, and supporters
• Collaborating with fellow volunteers to ensure efficient operations
• Operating the till and handling payments
• Assisting with administrative tasks and reception duties
• Promoting Gift Aid
• Implementing add-on sales strategies
• 20% discount on purchases made at our shop
• Opportunities for training and personal development

• Provided lunch if you volunteer for more than 5 hours per day
