Overview
The City of Stockton is currently seeking a Risk Manager to lead the Risk Services division within Human Resources. The role requires a strong background in risk management operations, safety programs, workers’ compensation, and general liability compliance. The incumbent will work a City of Stockton 9/80 schedule: 7:30 am to 5:30 pm Mondays through Thursdays; 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Fridays, with alternating Fridays off and may be required to work additional hours and/or weekends.
Responsibilities(Illustrative Only)
- Develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards for the division; direct the preparation and administration of the division’s budget.
- Recommend the appointment of personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; conduct performance evaluations; implement discipline procedures as required; maintain discipline and high standards necessary for the efficient and professional operation of the unit.
- Manage the design and implementation of preventative safety programs to develop and promote an effective loss control culture in the City.
- Manage the design and administration of safety program‑related policy and procedure.
- Direct the conduct of safety‑related training and inspection programs.
- Develop or direct the development and implementation of programs and policies to accomplish improvement and attainment of workers’ compensation program goals and objectives.
- Provide technical support, confere with and interpret policies, procedures and regulations to City Management and supervisory staff, representatives of employee organizations and employees; provide information to the public regarding City policies and procedures.
- Manage various analytical studies; prepare reports, correspondence and a variety of written materials.
- May be required to participate and take a lead role at City Emergency Operations Center in a disaster.
- May represent City at legal or regulatory hearings or in court proceedings.
- May represent City at Joint Powers Authorities meeting for Worker’s Compensation and Liability.
- Assist departments with compliance and implementation of departmental safety programs.
- Manage ADA and IDR programs.
- Represent the division to outside agencies and organizations; participate in outside community and professional groups and committees; provide technical assistance as necessary.
- Research and prepare technical and administrative reports; prepare written correspondence.
- Represent the City with dignity, integrity, and the spirit of cooperation in all relations with staff and the public.
- Foster an environment that embraces integrity, service, inclusion and collaboration.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with co‑workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
