Position: Psychologist
Location: Correctional Facility in Stockton, California
Pay Range: $140.74 to $142.74 per hour
Contract Type: Full-time, 6 to 9 months with extension eligibility

Minimum Requirements

  • At least twelve months of direct patient care experience within the last three years in a public or private institution
  • Current clinical competencies
  • Valid government-issued photo  (Drivers License or Passport)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
  • Active California Psychologist license (hard copy required)

Core Responsibilities

  • Deliver mental health services under the direction of the Senior Psychologist, Supervisor, or Chief of Mental Health
  • Maintain order and ensure the safety of inmate-patients while providing care
  • Serve as clinician-of-the-day during scheduled workdays and respond to emergencies
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary staff to support effective clinical operations
  • Conduct initial mental health assessments, including reviews of criminal, psychological, and substance abuse history
  • Provide crisis intervention, group therapy, and one-on-one counseling
  • Conduct in-cell evaluations as needed; may involve walking long distances or climbing stairs
  • Identify psychiatric symptoms and provide accurate diagnoses and management plans
  • Administer, score, and interpret a range of psychological tests
  • Prepare and update clinical documentation including progress notes and treatment plans
  • Participate in Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (IDTT) meetings
  • Use SOAPE-formatted notes to track patient progress
  • Perform mental status exams and review historical records to inform clinical decisions
  • Build community partnerships as assigned to support continuity of care
  • Offer mental health education and resources for inmates, including those with chronic illness or sex offenses
  • Assist with applications for SSI and other support services
  • Collect and analyze data from audits to ensure program compliance
  • Share authorized patient information with relatives or caregivers upon written consent
  • Build therapeutic relationships with patients and their support networks to promote care engagement
  • Represent the department at both internal and external mental health discussions
  • Provide input on program development and implementation for inmate care and rehabilitation
