Description

Under the direction of the assigned manager, assigned three or more principal administrative responsibilities and oversight for the operation and management of the following:
The Children Development Center, Special Programs, the Empowerment Center, Counseling Department, Welcome Center, Outreach and Onboarding, Articulation, the Career/ Transfer Center, Associated Students of Delta College (ASDC), Student Activities, and the Student Equity and Achievement Program plan, Learning Communities at various District locations. Provide supervision and direction regarding the District's outreach and recruitment programs, probation, student grievances, and related student success initiatives and activities addressing student success mandates in the areas of Counseling, Orientation, Assessment, Education Planning and Follow-Up services.

The Dean of Student Services has broad influence in the development, interpretation and implementation of major policies and procedures pertaining to the Student Services areas assigned by the District, including: the selection and evaluation of faculty, management, and classified staff; preparation of faculty assignments; curriculum development; scheduling of classes; and program budget development and monitoring. In addition, the Dean is expected to lead counseling faculty, staff, and colleagues toward innovative student success practices and effective student learning outcomes and program review.

and Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide administrative leadership for three or more of the following:
    Financial Aid, Admissions and Records, Special Programs, Counseling, Career and Transfer Center, Student Activities, Community Outreach and Re
    - Entry Services, and the Student Peer Assistance Programs.
  • Work closely with the Counseling Area in administering a comprehensive program of counseling and other student support services.
  • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of Student Services programs and services.
  • Oversee budgets and staff scheduling in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Participate as member of the ACTs Team that provides behavioral intervention support to students in crisis on campus, and the SAFE team (Student Conduct Committee), as required.
  • Facilitate the coordination of services among student services programs including standing in as the hearing officer ensuring standards within the Student Code of Conduct policies and procedures. Provide training for Hearing Panel members on student discipline, grievances, due process, and related policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the planning, coordination, and implementation of the Student Equity and Achievement Program plan, the Guided Pathways Programs and Success Teams, and Basic Needs.
  • Assist in the administration of operations and programmatic implementation of three or more of the following assigned categorical initiatives that may include but are not limited to assisting in the oversight of EOPS/CARE, DSPS, CalWORKs, Empowerment Resources Program, Veterans Resources Center, Learning Communities and Transfer Programs and other relevant support services. Additionally, develop and promote a campus climate based on trust, inclusion collaboration and respect;

    and encourage and facilitate avenues to achieve equitable outcomes and success for historically marginalized and disproportionately impacted student populations.
  • Interpret, implement, and review College/District Board policies in Student Services.
  • Participate in educational planning and policy development in conjunction with the other academic and/or student services deans and administrators.
  • Initiate goals and objectives consistent with the mission and goals of the District.
  • Participate in the planning and program development for the programs assigned to the Counseling and Student Services area.
  • Participate in the hiring, supervision and evaluation of faculty, management and classified staff in the area of Counseling and Support Services.
  • Develop, prepare, and monitor the planning and implementation and evaluation efforts of the programs assigned to the Counseling and Support Services area.
  • Maintain appropriate evaluative methodology, statistical reports, and other records to assess accomplishments and define departmental needs.
  • Serve on District standing and ad hoc committees as required.
  • Encourage a climate of innovation and continuous program improvement and collaboration.
  • Develop and monitor program reviews for departments/programs including student learning and service area outcomes, assessments, and evaluation of data for the purpose of program improvement.
  • Work closely with the Office of Institutional Research in order to assess and evaluate the counseling department and other student programs and services.
  • Recommend to the Vice President of Student Services/Assistant Superintendent the development of policies and procedures needed to successfully implement goals and objectives.
