Start your career where it matters most – building a better future together

Tilbury Douglas is a leading UK building, infrastructure, engineering and fit‑out company. We deliver complex projects across sectors including health, education, defence, justice, water, commercial and civic estate. Effective planning plays a critical role in ensuring our projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to programme.

As an Apprentice Planner, you’ll support the development, management and monitoring of project programmes. You’ll gain hands‑on experience working with planning and project teams while developing the technical skills needed for a career in construction planning.

Location

This role will be based in the North East region, working within our Regional Planning team. You’ll gain experience across live projects, with time split between site‑based and office‑based planning environments.

What you’ll be doing

As a Level 6 Apprentice Planner, you’ll combine on‑the‑job learning with formal study, developing the core skills required to support planning and programme management functions.

You will study towards a Project Controls Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship, typically achieving a BSc or equivalent Level 6 qualification.

With the support of experienced planners and project teams, you’ll:

  • Support the development and maintenance of construction programmes
  • Assist with progress updates, programme reviews and reporting
  • Help monitor project progress against key milestones and critical paths
  • Support the production of short‑term lookahead programmes
  • Assist with analysis of programme risks, opportunities and change impacts
  • Learn how planning supports safe, efficient and coordinated project delivery
  • Support coordination between site teams, subcontractors and project managers
  • Assist with data management, programme records and planning documentation
  • Develop an understanding of planning software and tools used in construction projects
Why this role?

This apprenticeship provides a strong entry route into construction planning, combining practical project experience with a recognised qualification. On completion, you’ll be well placed to progress into roles such as Assistant Planner, Planner and Planning Manager

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for people who are organised, analytical and keen to build a career in planning and project controls. You’ll bring:

  • GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English
  • A genuine interest in construction, planning and programme management
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills
  • Good attention to detail and problem‑solving ability
  • Confident communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of people
  • A proactive and methodical approach to work
  • A full UK driving licence (or working towards one by the time you start)

Previous construction or office‑based experience is desirable but not essential.

What we offer
  • A structured Level 6 apprenticeship combining work‑based learning with formal study
  • Mentoring and support from experienced planners and project professionals
  • A competitive apprentice salary with progression as you develop
