The Assistant Controller is a key member of the site finance team and plays a critical role in overseeing core accounting functions, including General Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Payroll. This position partners closely with Operations, Purchasing, HR, and other cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, cost efficiency, and a strong internal control environment. The Assistant Controller reports directly to the Controller and collaborates with corporate headquarters.
EssentialResponsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including General Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Payroll
- Manage the monthly close process to ensure accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant financial results
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and balance sheet analyses
- Ensure accurate processing of customer billings, cash receipts, vendor payments, and payroll transactions
- Monitor and enforce segregation of duties and internal controls across accounting functions
- Partner with Human Resources to ensure accurate payroll processing, benefit accruals, and reporting
- Support revenue recognition activities in coordination with the Controller
- Maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance and audit readiness
- Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes and close efficiency
- Support ERP optimization and data integrity initiatives
- Assist with post-merger integration and process standardization efforts
- Mentor and develop accounting staff
- Collaborate with Cost Accounting to ensure accurate financial statements and identify margin improvement opportunities
- Serve as a trusted finance partner to cross-functional teams
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
- CPA preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities
- Manufacturing experience required; aerospace & defense strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls
- ERP experience required (Visibility ERP a plus)
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities
- Ability to operate effectively in both hands-on and leadership capacities
