Job Title: Learning Support Assistant - Complex Needs
Location: Stockton-on-Tees
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
Contract: Full-time (term time)/ Temp/Contract
About the Role
Empowering Learning are seeking a caring, committed and reliable Learning Support Assistant to support children with complex needs in a school setting in Stockton-on-Tees. This full-time role is essential in providing consistency and stability for the children, supporting both their learning and personal development.
You will work closely with children who may have a range of additional needs, including communication difficulties, sensory needs and personal care requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for children with complex needs
- Support children to access the curriculum in a safe and nurturing environment
- Use alternative communication methods to support understanding and engagement
- Assist with personal care where required, maintaining dignity and respect at all times
- Promote independence, emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff and external professionals
- Build positive relationships with children, staff and parents/carers
Essential Requirements
- Experience supporting children with complex needs in a school or similar setting
- A patient, compassionate and flexible approach
- Commitment to working full time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm to ensure consistency for the children
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to purchase one
Desirable Experience & Skills
- Experience using PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System)
- Knowledge or experience of Makaton
- British Sign Language (BSL) skills
- Relevant qualifications in education, SEND or care
