Teaching Assistant (SEMH & Personal Care) – Stockport

We are currently seeking dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistants with personal care experience to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) School in Stockport. This is a rewarding opportunity to work 1:1 with students who have complex needs, supporting their academic, emotional, and personal development in a structured and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities- Provide 1:1 support for pupils with SEMH and complex learning needs
- Support students with personal care, ensuring dignity, safety, and wellbeing at all times
- Assist pupils to engage with learning activities, both in and out of the classroom
- Help manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours using positive behaviour strategies
- Support emotional regulation, social skills, and communication development
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and external professionals
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to individual support plans (EHCPs)
- Create a calm, consistent, and supportive learning environment
- Pupils may present with SEMH, ASD, ADHD, trauma‑related needs, and behavioural challenges
- Many require consistent routines, patience, and strong boundaries
- Support is highly individualised and relationship‑based
- Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or Support Worker
- Proven personal care experience (essential)
- Experience working with SEMH, SEN, or complex needs
- Ability to build positive and trusting relationships
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
