The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) provides hands‑on supervision of caregiver staff during their shift, ensures the provision of quality resident care, and upholds residence philosophy and resident well‑being. The CMA properly administers scheduled medications to residents in accordance with state regulations and Oaks Senior Living policy, offers personalized care and services, responds effectively to emergency situations, and ensures residents' rights to safe, prompt, and confidential treatment.
Qualifications- A minimum of one year of experience working with residents in a senior‑living environment.
- Supervisory experience in a healthcare or service industry preferred.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English.
- Friendly, caring disposition with a desire to work with older adults.
- Must be 21 years of age and have a satisfactory criminal‑history check.
- Must have a physical exam by a licensed physician and a negative drug screen.
- Must be able to react in an emergency situation.
- Carry out all duties as assigned by the Wellness Director and/or the Executive Director, supervise caregiver staff, and ensure quality care and meeting resident needs.
- Adhere to each resident’s Negotiated Service Plan and notify leadership of any changes.
- Answer and respond immediately to resident calls.
- Seek assistance promptly if unsure about medication or treatment procedures.
- Assist with serving meals, supervise staff in the dining room, and ensure cleaning after service.
- Control infection spread by following standard precautions and dispose of waste according to policy.
- Build and maintain good relationships with residents and their families.
- Respond to resident emergencies following proper procedures.
- Assist in developing and maintaining a caregiver staffing schedule that meets resident needs.
- Respond to on‑job injuries in accordance with policies.
- Complete 16 hours of continuing education units (CEU) biennially for CMAs as outlined by the Alliant GMCF Registry, and an additional 16 hours annually.
- Lead by example, encourage teamwork, and promote the Oaks Senior Living philosophy.
- Maintain an "open door" for staff to address concerns or grievances.
- Maintain CPR & First Aid certification.
- Follow the six "rights" of medication assistance (right resident, right drug, right dosage, right time, right route, right record/documentation) each time medication assistance occurs, checking each right three times.
- Administer medications according to the Medication Observation Record (MOR) and protect resident privacy.
- Respect residents’ right to refuse medication/treatment and explain the medication and its purpose before administration.
- Observe residents for adverse reactions and report immediately.
- Attend all regular staff meetings and required in‑service training sessions.
- Communicate resident needs, changes in conditions, adverse reactions, concerns, medication refusals, and errors to leadership during shift change according to policy.
- Ensure required paperwork for resident care is completed and up‑to‑date.
Job Requirements
- Stand/walk up to eight hours a day; sit up to two hours a day.
- Frequently support up to 70 pounds; occasionally lift/carry up to 15 pounds.
- Frequently kneel, bend, and reach; secure proper assistance for resident transfers as needed.
