Job Summary

Plan, lay‑out, install, assemble and erect steel components in accordance with plans, specifications, codes and industry standards. May erect metal storage tanks and assemble prefabricated metal buildings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Use appropriate hand (hammer wrench, socket‑wrench) and power tools (cutting torch, air‑trigger) to measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and erect steel and install related items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications.
  • Shakeout steel into erectable sequence; rig steel members for crane hoisting with thorough knowledge and use of crane signals; connect steel members; bolt‑up connections; rack structure; plumb and square; torque bolts and use crane signals.
  • Guide steel members into position using tag line, pulls, pushes or pries; force member into final position using turnbuckle, iron bars, jacks and hand tools; align holes using drift pins or handle of wrench through holes.
  • Verify vertical and horizontal alignment using plumb bob and level; cut and weld members to make alterations, using oxyacetylene welding equipment.
  • Pull, push or pry structural steel members into approximate positions for bolting into place; participate in all safety related processes and programs as requested.
  • Engage with work team to achieve zero injuries and ensure crew safety.
  • Watch for hazards and report concerns to supervisor or safety professional; use stop‑work authority if needed; report accidents and near misses; participate in investigations.
  • Identify safety hazards and take corrective action; understand and follow lockout‑tag‑out procedures.
  • Attend site‑specific training and follow all procedures outlined; maintain a safe and clean work environment; use effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Perform base math operations rapidly and accurately; coordinate work with other crafts; provide on‑the‑job training and/or mentoring; produce quality work meeting plans and industry standards.
  • Visualize two‑dimensional drawings in three dimensions; understand contract plans and specifications; plan, lay‑out, install and erect steel components.

Preferred Qualifications
  • One of the following: NCCER Rigger, NCCER Ironworker, NCCER Welding.
Minimum Qualifications

At least 4 years of experience working as an ironworker or similar craft, strong knowledge of the ironworker craft, experience in erection of all types of steel structures, knowledge of structural welding, use of cutting torches, and all aspects of the ironworker craft. Must have all necessary tools (see Ironworker tool list). Must be at least 18 years of age. NCCER Ironworking.

Must complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements including background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.
