About This PositionFacilities Management is looking for an energetic, skilled sign maker to join our team. Tasks- Operate computerized sign-making equipment, sign fabrication, sign installation, work scheduling, record keeping, and maintenance.
- Assist other preventative maintenance & Facilities Management personnel as needed.
- Work during emergencies &/or any other event after 5 pm, weekdays, weekends, & holidays; overtime required when needed.
- Perform snow and ice removal tasks and respond at any time of the day or night when scheduled by management, regardless of the weather conditions; some irregular and extra hours as needed for projects and emergencies.
- Respond to emergency and urgent work; may require work during non-business hours including evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, and when the University is closed.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (gloves, safety glasses, etc.); these items are not for personal use and are provided by the department.
- Perform other assigned duties related to operations, maintenance, and renovations to buildings and equipment, such as preventive maintenance, light duty carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, and other miscellaneous repairs and maintenance activities.
Chemical is rated hazardous in the work area. Plastic fumes or odor; machine noise; plastic, wood, and metal shavings are byproducts of production.
Physical Demands"This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally."
Required Qualifications- High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before the agreed-upon start date)
- Signmaker I:
High School/GED with one year of experience with sign manufacture, carpentry, computer, graphic arts or related experience. - Signmaker II:
High School/GED with three years of experience with sign manufacture, carpentry, computer, graphic arts, computer-aided design, or related experience. - Signmaker III:
High School/GED with four years of experience with sign manufacture, carpentry, computer, graphic arts, computer-aided design, or related experience. - Senior Signmaker:
High School/GED with six years of experience with the OSU sign shop and demonstrates leadership ability. - Post-secondary may be substituted for experience; preference given to post-secondary education in plumbing.
- Candidate position placement is dependent upon years of experience and availability.
- Have before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver’s license, which is required for operation of an OSU vehicle in the performance of job duties as assigned.
- Senior Signmaker:
Completion of FM Leadership Development Program.
- Computer knowledge; typing skills; carpentry skills; sign layout and composition; lettering techniques; graphic design skills; ability to read architectural floor plans.
- Ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
- Ability to become proficient in the use of "AiM" computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology.
- Frequent communication with customers and coworkers; must be able to exchange accurate information in inquiries about work.
- Vocational/Technical.
- High School/GED with three years' experience with sign manufacture, carpentry, computer, graphic arts, or related experience with two of those years in the building trades or technical field at a university, commercial, or industrial building maintenance organization.
