Position: Municipal & Employment Legal Assistant

Eckberg Lammers, P.C is currently seeking a qualified full-time Legal Assistant to support attorneys in our civil municipal & employment practice groups located in our Stillwater, MN office. This position will assist and manage projects from multiple transactional and employment law attorneys.

What You’ll Do

This position will have the following primary responsibilities:

  • Prioritize multiple projects from multiple attorneys with heavy volume sufficient to manage progress on each case and meet applicable deadlines.
  • File Organization:
    Open and maintain physical and electronic files; pleading, discovery and document logs; process expenses and other administrative functions.
  • Legal Documents:
    Prepare legal documents, letters, and memoranda so they are in accordance with court procedures and office specifications; and that they are well written by applying knowledge of standard legal formats, legal terminology, citations, English, grammar, punctuation and spelling. Some drafting work will be billable to client.
  • Calendars & Deadlines:
    Maintain calendars, including scheduling deadlines, schedule meetings, arrange meeting locations and make all necessary arrangements including court reporter and setting up technology.
  • Typing/Keyboarding:
    Sufficient to perform skilled typing tasks with speed and accuracy.
  • Word Processing:
    Ability to use word processing software sufficient to type, format, edit and finalize legal documents and other written materials ensuring that they are properly formatted, grammatically correct and error-free.
  • Database Management:
    Ability to use or readily learn to use case management software to maintain files electronically.
  • Legal Terminology:
    Knowledge of legal terminology sufficient to perform the job duties effectively.
  • Customer Service

    Skills:

    Ability to use a multi-line phone system and provide courteous, effective & timely service to co-workers, other legal staff and clients/customers.

Minimum Qualifications

A successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Self-starter, taking initiative to own projects and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • 2+ years of experience working as a legal assistant.
  • Experience in litigation processes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong grammatical skills for reviewing and finalizing documents.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and in a team setting.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to exercise tact and discretion with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Proficiency in Word, Outlook, Excel, and Acrobat/Adobe Pro.
  • Knowledge of law, legal procedures, protocols, and State and Federal court systems.
  • Working knowledge of the rules of civil procedure.
  • Ability to work onsite in our Stillwater office.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following preferred qualifications:

  • Prior use of document/ case management system.
  • Knowledge of both Minnesota and Wisconsin State and Federal court systems.
  • Prior experience in time recording and billing work to clients.

Compensation Range: $50,
