Job ScopeThe Applications Scientist I (ASI) supports clinical laboratory customers within a defined territory by assisting with assay implementations, providing field-based training, and offering scientific assay support. As part of the Commercial Team, the ASI contributes to new customer onboarding and assists with assay verifications and data presentations to help drive the adoption and utilization of instrument and assay platforms.
Key Job Functions- Assisting with new assay implementations and supporting ongoing customer operations
- Performing customer training and education on existing and new products/instrumentation
- Serving as a scientific resource on assay utilization, performance, regulatory requirements, and related software/LIS integration
- Collaborating with sales, marketing, and technical support teams to enhance the customer experience
Performance is measured by the successful and timely completion of assay implementations, customer satisfaction, technical development, and contribution to revenue goals. This role requires frequent travel to provide onsite training, verification, troubleshooting, and stakeholder engagement. Coverage outside of a defined territory may also be required.
Job Responsibilities and Duties- Implementing New Assays and Instruments at Customer Sites: support the implementation process by completing assigned tasks and developing understanding of workflows
- Pre-Implementation Planning: participate in planning calls, document details, follow up on action items, communicate with internal teams and customers
- Assay Verification Execution: prepare for site visits, execute routine verification steps, maintain team communication
- Data Analysis and Presentation: analyze and present routine assay data; ensure data completeness and accuracy; involve more experienced team members as needed
- Post Assay Verification: maintain ongoing communication to advance the assay go-live; escalate challenges as needed
- Sales Force Implementations: enter accurate notes and data into Salesforce; capture metrics consistently
- Management of Current Customer Base: begin to learn customers in the territory; support relationship development and follow-up actions
- Maintain Detailed and Timely Communication: internal and external communications; develop post-visit documentation and effective technical communication
- Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences required;
Master’s or PhD preferred - Experience:
2+ years in a clinical lab setting or Medical Device/Diagnostics/Pharmaceutical industry; 2+ years as a field-based Applications Scientist or equivalent preferred - Licenses and
Certifications:
ASCP or Canadian/Local Regulatory Body designation preferred - Technical
Skills:
familiarity with laboratory regulatory requirements (CAP, CLIA, COLA, Health Canada), good laboratory practices, LIS knowledge, diagnostic testing methods, and instrument troubleshooting - Communication and Interpersonal
Skills:
strong written and verbal communication; team player with good presentation and training skills - Other: ability to travel (70-80%), self-motivated, organized, with professionalism and integrity
