SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Responsible for capital and engineering administration and optimization for planning, design, project management, troubleshooting, and maintenance problem solving.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • As a leader in the mill, help ensure all mill employees are “safe from the start” by teaching, coaching and following up to ensure established safe work practices are being followed as well as compliance to federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Create, maintain and communicate the mill integrated capital plan working with mill, enterprise and contracted engineering.
  • Demonstrate experience in managing projects greater than $1,000,000 where there is overall responsibility for cost estimates and controls; scope control; planning and scheduling; and coordinating with other engineering disciplines to accomplish this.
  • Manage the priorities of project engineers and time allocation per project.
  • Facilitate the funding process and ensure the proper use of project development/implementation tools for execution.
  • Manage engineering services necessary for review and execution of projects start to finish (capital and non-capital).
  • Work with department and maintenance resources to review expense work orders for reallocation to capital.
  • Guide the selection of mechanical and electrical technology and equipment used in engineering solutions.
  • Conduct periodic tours of the mill conferring with operations and maintenance personnel regarding current jobs, making safety observations, performing audits and improving team member performance.
  • Organize and conduct training to assure successful installation, startup, and maintenance of equipment and systems.
  • Lead the updating and maintenance of the mill’s drawings and engineering documentation.
  • Coach and work collaboratively with engineers along with maintenance groups.
  • Be subject to emergency call‑ins and weekend/holiday coverage (currently 1 in 10 weekends).
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering plus 5 years of industrial experience, preferably in the paper industry.
  • Experience in capital project management in an industrial setting.
  • Understanding of federal, state and local statutory requirements for equipment installation.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES REQUESTED
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Readily adaptable to change, i.e., project plans and priorities.
  • Self‑motivated, hands‑on engineer who is comfortable with electrical/mechanical systems and software tools.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, SAP and Microsoft Office is desirable.
  • Possess ambulatory capabilities to walk extensively and climb ladders and stairways; and also be able to tolerate temperature extremes in carrying out responsibilities.
  • Ability to work extended hours during downtime days, holidays, and weekends as scheduled.
