Estates Maintenance Worker - CarpentryThe closing date is 03 March 2026
We are recruiting for a Estates Maintenance Worker who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
The post holder will be a carpenter with a building background and will carry out, with minimum supervision, building maintenance and installation work on all buildings within East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust estate.
They will also provide technical building/carpentry advice and support for the maintenance of all relevant buildings within the trust.
The post holder will need to be able to travel easily between sites.

The Estates Maintenance Worker will maintain/repair and install door furniture, fixtures and fittings.
Be able to erect studwork partitioning walls, plaster boarding, hang doors, bath panels and boxing in other fittings when required.
Understand, maintain, install and repair simple & complex locks and locking systems, coded door locks and drug cupboard locks.
Manufacture parts and assemblies using lathes and machine tool and be able to undertake minor decoration work.
Understand all relevant statutory building requirements.

Person Specification Experience- Extensive experience working on reactive and planned maintenance carpentry/joinery tasks
- Previous hospital experience
- Has the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Able to solve problems or pre-empt problems by employing appropriate measures and processes.
- Commitment to, and experience of, multi-professional working arrangements and projects
- Flexible and keen to progress and be trained in other skills
- Able to diagnose and repair faults on all carpentry, door furniture and fittings found around the hospital.
- Exceptional understanding and working knowledge of technical specifications required for carpentry maintenance and repair.
- Exceptional understanding and working knowledge of health and safety standards for carpentry maintenance and repair
- Understanding and appreciation of other craft trades and services within the healthcare premises
- Knowledge of fitting all types of locks used in the healthcare building environment.
- Completed an Approved Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 2/3 or full City and Guilds Certification in Carpentry and/or Joinery
- Health and Safety Courses
