We are seeking an experienced HPC Engineer to support the design, implementation and ongoing operation of high‑performance computing platforms with a strong Linux system/administration background. The engineer will maintain and optimise infrastructure, provide technical assistance to users, manage HPC environments (compute nodes, storage and interconnects), collaborate across teams and engage with multi‑national stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Design, implement and operate HPC platforms.
  • Maintain and optimise infrastructure for reliability, security and performance.
  • Provide technical assistance to the user community and ensure efficient system performance.
  • Manage HPC environments including compute nodes, storage, and interconnects.
  • Collaborate with team members, stakeholders and external vendors.
  • Engage with multi‑national, multi‑cultural teams to drive capability development.
Qualifications
  • Strong Linux system administration (installation, configuration, patching, troubleshooting).
  • Experience with HPC job schedulers (e.g., SLURM).
  • Knowledge of HPC interconnects (Infini Band, cluster networking).
  • Familiarity with HPC storage systems (GPFS, NFS).
  • Experience with compilers, libraries, parallel programming models.
  • Proficient in scripting and automation (Bash, Python, Ansible).
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools (Nagios, Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Experience with containerisation and virtualisation for HPC (Singularity/Apptainer, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Understanding of data security practices in HPC environments.
  • Strong communication skills to support users and liaise with vendors.
  • Knowledge of IT service management frameworks such as ITIL.

Salary:
Circa £55,000 depending on experience. Dynamic (hybrid) working: 2–3 days per week on‑site.

Security clearance required:
British Citizen with DV clearance and basic Personal Security Standard (BPSS). Other checks may apply.
