Stevenage with Hybrid Working
At the IET, making our world a better place starts by creating a better place for our people. At the IET you’ll have more than just a job. Our work is exciting and challenging, connecting the people who solve the problems that matter. It means working with us has real meaning and impact, and you’ll grow – professionally and personally – in ways you never thought possible.
We’re also making significant investments in our people, including providing a modern, vibrant workplace and embracing hybrid working.
Hybrid Working Arrangement – As part of our hybrid approach, you’ll need to be in the office a minimum of twice a week, with Wednesday as an essential requirement to support collaboration and connection across the People team.
What you’ll be doingPlease note, the role internally is known as an Administrator – People Support.
As our HR Administrator, you’ll be part of the People Shared Service team and the first point of contact for HR-related queries across the IET. You’ll support colleagues and managers with a wide range of questions from general HR policies and processes to recruitment, learning and development, and day‑to‑day people operations.
No two days will look the same. You’ll manage and respond to queries through the People inbox, making sure colleagues receive clear, helpful and consistent guidance. You’ll also keep our People systems up to date with changes to roles, pay, and personal details, ensuring everything is accurate and aligned with payroll.
Within the role, you’ll support the full employee lifecycle; helping with onboarding administration, absence processes (such as sickness or parental leave), payroll‑related updates, and training coordination. You’ll also provide admin support for recruitment activity and L&D processes, keeping records accurate and systems updated.
Along the way, you’ll produce reports, maintain trackers and look for ways to improve how we work. It’s a role that combines great customer service with strong attention to detail, helping us deliver a People service that colleagues can trust.
What we hope you can bring to the roleWe’re looking for someone with previous HR administration experience who enjoys working across different areas of People, including HR operations, recruitment, and learning and development.
You’ll be comfortable working with HR systems and handling data accurately, ideally with some experience supporting payroll updates and reporting. Strong organisational skills are important, as you’ll be juggling a variety of queries and tasks while meeting key time frames and due dates.
You’ll be approachable and clear in your communication, able to explain processes in a straightforward way and build positive relationships across the IET. Discretion and professionalism will come naturally to you, especially when handling sensitive information.
Most importantly, you’ll be proactive, collaborative and keen to get involved – someone who enjoys variety, takes ownership of your work, and wants to play an active role in delivering a high‑quality, people‑focused service.
We’d love to get to know youIs imposter syndrome creeping in? Don’t let it stop you; if you meet most (not all!) of the criteria, please apply. We’d much rather hear from you and review your application than miss out altogether.
