High‑Speed Digital & Hardware Design Lead

Stevenage or Bristol | Hybrid Working

Own the architecture. Shape the future. Build what others can’t.

Are you a high‑speed digital specialist who thrives on solving the hardest hardware challenges?

Do you want to design the digital brains behind next‑generation sensing, signal processing and advanced embedded systems?

Ready to combine hands‑on technical depth with genuine architectural influence?

If so — this role is built for you.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a High‑Speed Digital & Hardware Design Lead to take ownership of complex digital processing platforms built around cutting‑edge FPGA and MPSoC technologies.

You’ll work at the heart of systems powering advanced sensing, radar/SDR, AI‑accelerated pipelines and high‑bandwidth digital acquisition. This is a role where your designs matter — technically, strategically and in real‑world performance.

What You’ll Lead

You will play a central role in:

  • Architecting and designing high‑speed digital electronics
    , from concept to production
  • Developing FPGA/MPSoC platforms using advanced devices (Zynq, Ultra Scale, Versal-class)
  • Integrating DDR, SERDES, PCIe, high-speed Ethernet, LVDS, JESD
    204B
    and other advanced interfaces
  • Driving SI/PI analysis for reliable high‑speed performance
  • Collaborating with systems, firmware, software, mechanical and production teams
  • Leading design reviews, owning requirements and driving technical excellence
  • Mentoring engineers and unlocking elegant, optimised hardware solutions

This is a true technical leadership role — without taking you away from engineering.

You’ll Succeed Here If You Have:
  • Solid experience in high‑speed digital hardware design
  • Strong background in FPGA/SoC development (VHDL essential)
  • Experience with DDR, SERDES, PCIe, LVDS, high-speed ADC/DAC systems
  • Understanding of SI/PI, timing closure, and complex digital architectures
  • Familiarity with DSP/SDR, radar or sensor fusion concepts
  • Knowledge of the full hardware lifecycle — from requirements to release
  • A collaborative mindset, able to work across multiple engineering disciplines
  • A desire to influence, innovate and lead in a deeply technical environment
Why This Role Stands Out
  • Work with world‑class engineers across multiple domains
  • Design with real technical freedom and architectural input
  • Hybrid working with a strong on‑site engineering culture
  • Long‑term progression into Technical Specialist / Expert paths
  • Facilities designed for serious hardware engineering — labs, test environments, and cutting‑edge tools
Security Requirements

Due to the nature of the projects, candidates must be eligible for UK security clearance (British citizen or dual citizen including British).
