Systems Design Engineer

MBDA is looking to recruit a Systems Design Engineer to work on their CAMM family product line, focused on the development of activities around software updates and missile system performance. As one of two System Design Functions in Missile Architecture and Validation UK, Systems Design Missiles (SDM) provides Systems Engineering skills to Missile Systems programmes, establishing requirements, system architectures and guiding the Verification & Validation process leading to product certification and acceptance.

The opportunity you will join the CAMM Family Systems Design team working within the Systems Software and Performance team responsible for coordination and delivery of munition software updates, spiral development programmes, and technical studies into missile performance.

• Deliver systems engineering activities associated with software updates and spiral development (e.g., requirements elicitation & management, system architecture design, interface definition, proving strategies and plans, performance modelling, conduct of design reviews).
• Coordinate multiple stakeholders to deliver software products that are fit for purpose.
• Conduct system performance and functional chain domain tasks, including performance modelling and analysis.
• Engage with MoD, external agencies, military personnel and export customers.
• Re‑design the software and firmware within CAMM and CAMM‑ER munitions to embody new functionality and security features across a new hardware platform.
• Support the coordination of the functional strand domain teams (Seekers, Guidance & Navigation, Simulation & Modelling, Lethality, Software & Hardware in Loop).
• Lead tasks for a particular contract when appropriate.

• Systems engineering experience at multiple lifecycle phases: requirements, system architecture, verification and certification.
• Experience in system performance and the functional chain domain is beneficial.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, and capability to write clear, concise engineering documentation.
• Strong verbal communication, listening and time‑management skills.
• Desire to develop and grow systems engineering skills and improve engineering methods.
• Ability to engage with subject‑matter experts and grow knowledge of new technical areas.

• Salary £52 000–£57 000 depending on experience.
• Paid annual leave 25 days per year plus additional days for 5, 10, 15 years of service.
