Go back East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust is recruiting a Special Schools Nurse to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to children with special educational needs/disabilities and complex health needs. We have part‑time and full‑time vacancies available on a term‑time only basis.
The SEND School Nursing Team is responsible for the assessment, delivery and coordination of nursing care for children who attend four designated special schools in Hertfordshire. The team comprises band 5 and band 6 nurses and clinical support workers, managed by the band 7 Nurse Team Manager for Special Schools.
Main duties of the jobThe Special Schools Nurse will work collaboratively with children, families, carers, school staff and the wider multi‑disciplinary team within the education setting to ensure a supportive and caring learning environment.
- Coordinate and support nursing and educational teams at an allocated school site.
- Provide compassionate care in a school setting, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Advise and support families and education staff and provide training and competency assessments to education staff.
- Respond flexibly to emergency needs as they arise in a constantly changing environment.

Qualifications / Training- Registered Nurse child or RN Learning Disabilities with recent experience of working with children/young people.
- Current NMC registration.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Degree level study.
- General paediatric experience.
- Experience in a community setting with children and young people.
- Experience with children and young people with complex needs and disabilities.
- Experience working in an educational setting.
- Experience teaching others.
- Competent in basic nursing skills.
- Ability to work co‑operatively in a team.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Good understanding of multidisciplinary team work with children and young people with complex needs.
- Early leadership skills.
- Knowledge of NMC code of professional conduct.
- Knowledge of safeguarding children and young people.
- Knowledge of key health‑related issues affecting children and young people.
- Knowledge of clinical governance and quality issues.
- Health and safety awareness.
- Evidence of self‑awareness and reflective practice.
- Ability to travel between sites.
- Understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion.
