Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Level 2 Data Center Cable Technician to support a large-scale data center build within an active construction environment. This role requires strong technical competency with fiber, copper, testing equipment, and telecom infrastructure buildouts. Candidates should be comfortable working independently while also supporting and guiding junior technicians on-site.
Top Skills Required:
  • Experience pulling fiber optic cable.
  • Experience using Fluke testers for certification and troubleshooting.
  • Experience terminating copper and fiber (various connector types).
  • Cable dressing experience is a strong plus.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Perform all pre-termination procedures, including dressing, forming, organizing, labeling, and determining proper cable length and slack.
  • Properly suspend and support cabling using cable trays, J-hooks, D-rings, bridal rings, and trapeze systems. Build and install telecom closets, including:
    • Mounting and installing backboards
    • Cross-connect hardware
    • Racks and patch panels
    • Fiber optic hardware
    • Grounding for racks, equipment, and cabling
  • Terminate copper jacks/outlets (CAT 3, CAT 5, CAT
    6), mount faceplates, and install surface-mount boxes.
  • Complete all IDC connections, including 110/66 blocks and patch panels.
  • Perform detailed testing procedures:
    • Continuity testing for horizontal and riser cabling
    • Use of volt-ohmmeter
    • Troubleshooting opens, shorts, split pairs, and crossed pairs
    • Tone-and-trace line identification
  • Identify active voice or data circuits and assist with cutovers as needed.
  • Support project progress by coordinating workloads, training junior team members, and ensuring timely task completion.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately, including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, and change orders.
  • Maintain compliance with all safety and quality standards on-site.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
  • Willingness to travel within local/regional territory if required.
  • Positive, professional, self-motivated attitude with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Ability to support a strong team culture and serve as a liaison to customer representatives.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00/hr.
