OverviewIn this Information and Technology Specialist position, you will serve as a Field Technology Officer within the Office of Information and Technology. You will be part of a technical team that implements complex technological solutions and maintains operational availability.
Responsibilities- Diagnose and resolve problems in response to customer‑reported incidents.
- Research, evaluate, and provide feedback on problematic trends to support customer support requirements.
- Interact with internal and external stakeholders as the Subject Matter Expert to provide IT guidance and solutions, and provide customer training as required.
- Install, configure, integrate, troubleshoot, optimize, and maintain customer hardware and software to maximize system availability and monitor network performance.
- Identify and specify information system security requirements and ensure application of information security and information assurance policies, principles and practices.

Experience Levels:
- GS‑11 – 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level: analyzing, planning, integrating, and configuring network systems hardware; diagnosing and resolving network problems; testing, installing, configuring, and maintaining networks.
- GS‑12 – 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level: adjusting, modifying, and improving IT systems; diagnosing and resolving platform, operating system, application, and configuration issues; installing, configuring, integrating, troubleshooting, optimizing, and monitoring network performance; providing guidance and solutions for migration activities.
Education substitution: A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressive graduate education in a qualifying field, may substitute for experience at the GS‑11 level. Qualifications are party to a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information science, or related field, and at least 24 semester hours in applicable areas.
Required Information- U.S. citizenship required.
- Male applicants born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service.
- Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.

- Potential background investigation and drug testing procedures; CBP follows the DHS Drug‑Free Workplace Plan.
- Full enrollment in E‑Verify and compliance with ethics and conflict‑of‑interest statutes.
- Residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP; if not met, you may apply for a waiver under specified conditions.
- Probationary period of one year for all new federal government employees.
- May be required to be on call 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
- May require uncontrollable, unscheduled overtime in excess of 40 hours per week.
- Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds and climbing ladders; work may be performed indoors, on remote sites, or in confined spaces.
- Shift work and rotational basis required.
