Position Summary

The Pharmacy Technician - Sterile Compounding is a key member of the Akina Pharmacy team, responsible for preparing sterile medications with precision, accuracy, and adherence to the highest safety and quality standards. This role requires an exceptional commitment to compliance with USP and regulations and the ability to maintain an ISO-classified cleanroom environment.

As a Sterile Compounding Technician, you will perform aseptic compounding of both batched and non-batched sterile medications, complete rigorous cleaning and sanitization protocols, and conduct quality assurance tasks to ensure patient safety and product efficacy. You will also support ancillary tasks such as inventory management, bubble point testing, and autoclaving, contributing to the seamless execution of the pharmacy’s production schedule.

You’ll have success here if you value clear processes and get, want, and have capacity to do the following things:

  • Sterile Compounding Production Schedule Execution:
    Perform compounding activities in strict adherence to USP and regulations, cGMP standards, and departmental SOPs to ensure quality, safety, and turnaround time in sterile product preparation.
  • Cleanroom Maintenance:
    Maintain an ISO‑classified environment by conducting rigorous cleaning and disinfection of the cleanroom to uphold sterile conditions and prevent contamination.
  • Supportive Compounding Tasks:
    Execute ancillary tasks that support compounding, such as bubble point testing, calibrations, inventory accounting, autoclaving, and LEAN initiatives (e.g., Root Cause Analysis, 5S, GEMBA) to enhance operational efficiency and product quality. Perform other duties and responsibilities within the department to ensure execution of the production schedule.
  • Inventory Management and Restocking:
    Monitor lab supply levels, submit requisitions as needed, and restock PPE, supplies, and equipment to ensure seamless lab operations and readiness. Maintain lab supply inventory and submit warehouse requisitions for supplies, devices, and additional equipment as needed to perform required tasks.
  • Training and Competency Maintenance:
    Stay up-to-date with required training and competencies in the electronic quality management system to ensure compliance and readiness.

We train our team to help them succeed, and everyone on our team helps with our success. In this role, you’ll be accountable for hitting the following numbers:

  • Compound sterile medications (10‑15 per day)
  • Complete daily and ongoing tasks, including cleaning, calibration and inventory checks (20‑30 per week)
  • Complete ongoing self‑guided trainings, and manager‑led competencies and evaluations (12‑15 per year)
