The Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and complete electrical estimates for mission-critical and data center projects. This role plays a key part in preconstruction by analyzing drawings and specifications, developing detailed takeoffs, soliciting vendor pricing, and supporting project handoff after award. The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge of electrical systems, experience with fast-paced bid environments, and an understanding of the unique requirements of critical facilities.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Prepare detailed electrical estimates for mission-critical and data center projects, including material, labor, equipment, and subcontracted scopes.
- Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and addenda.
- Analyze project documents to identify scope gaps, constructability concerns, and risk items.
- Develop clear and complete scopes of work for proposals and subcontractor/vendor pricing.
- Attend project site visits and bid walks to evaluate existing conditions, access constraints, phasing requirements, and logistical considerations.
- Solicit, evaluate, and level vendor and subcontractor quotes.
- Coordinate with suppliers on pricing, lead times, and alternates.
- Incorporate current market conditions, labor productivity, and escalation factors into estimates.
- Assist with proposal development, value engineering options, alternates, and clarifications.
- Support bid reviews and participate in handoff meetings with project management teams upon award.
- Maintain organized estimating files and historical cost data for future reference.
- Work closely with project managers, field leadership, and preconstruction teams to ensure estimates align with execution strategy.
- Develop and maintain estimating software processes, templates, and bid proposal materials to streamline estimate development and improve bid quality.
- Stay current on electrical codes, materials, labor trends, and mission-critical industry standards.
- Engage in light business development activities such as attending client meetings, coordinating or attending lunches with vendor partners and clients, and helping build and maintain strong industry relationships.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as an Electrical Estimator with an electrical contractor, data center or mission-critical project experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of commercial and mission-critical electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Willingness and ability to attend site visits and bid walks as required.
- Proficiency with estimating software, Procore, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
- Familiarity with conceptual and design-build estimating.
- Knowledge of medium- and low-voltage systems, UPS, generators, and critical power distribution.
- Experience supporting negotiated work and hard-bid projects.
