The Data Center Technical Operations Engineer I is responsible for supporting engineering operations within an Amazon Data Center. This role focuses on risk management, corrective and preventative maintenance of critical infrastructure, vendor coordination, and operational reporting. The engineer ensures high availability, safety, and reliability of mission-critical systems while delivering quality service to meet customer demands.
This opportunity provides hands-on experience within Amazon’s data center environment and exposure to large-scale infrastructure systems.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee on-site management of shift technicians, senior technicians, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure work is performed according to established procedures.
- Perform corrective and preventative maintenance on critical systems including:
Switchgear, Generators, UPS systems, Chillers and cooling towers, Computer Room Air Handlers (CRAHs), Building monitoring systems - Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare operational reports.
- Partner with IT managers and business leaders to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimize facility safety, reliability, and efficiency.
- Support emergency response operations for critical systems.
- Assist with asset and inventory management.
- Contribute to facility design, build-outs, and efficiency improvement projects as needed.
- Participate in recruiting support activities when required.
- Bachelor’s Degree or Technical (Military/Trade School) Degree with relevant experience
- 0–2 years of relevant technical work experience
- 0–2 years of management or team leadership experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced, complex environment
- Electrical or mechanical systems background
- Safety-oriented mindset
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- 0–2 years of Data Center Engineering experience
- 0–2 years of Data Center management experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
- Fundamental knowledge of network design and low-voltage cabling (copper/fiber)
- Demonstrated ownership and accountability
