Summary

The Sales and Management Intern position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” Additionally, interns perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning). They work closely with the Store Manager to understand how Buckle’s retail business operates and what it takes to excel in management.

  • Pay range: $15.16–$17/hr (base rate plus commission for sales positions)

Essential Duties And Responsibilities Sales Generation and Guest Service
  • Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide legendary service.
  • Answer questions about the store and its merchandise.
  • Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise by Guest needs.
  • Anticipate and fulfill Guest’s needs by suggesting additional items.
  • Demonstrate products using knowledge and sales education.
  • Maintain knowledge of current sales & promotions, payment & exchange policies, and security practices.
  • Achieve personal sales‑per‑hour, average sales and total net sales goals set by Store Management.
  • Provide legendary service in the front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and register area.
  • Help Guests try on or fit merchandise.
  • Check out and bag purchases.
  • Prepare merchandise for alterations.
  • Know all exchange and return procedures.
  • Fill out and use the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily to meet goals.
  • Meet or exceed performance standards in Buckle business builders and guest loyalty.
  • Place special orders or call other stores to find desired merchandise.
  • Maintain and build good Guest relationships.
  • Consistently maintain high standards, even when the Manager is not present.
Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development
  • Use Jobs & Careers cards, email referrals and Teammate Recommend to identify recruiting opportunities.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and create a positive floor culture.
Visual Merchandise Management
  • Present merchandise to maximize sales and achieve optimal inventory turnover.
  • Stay current on product range.
  • Work with teammates and Guests to identify product improvements and new ideas.
  • Ensure sales floor is consistently sized and new freight displayed properly.
Operations
  • Work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas.
  • Open and close cash registers, process payments, balance cash drawers, and make deposits.
  • Identify and prevent security risks and theft.
  • Follow loss‑prevention guidelines, including bag and purse checks.
  • Use Point of Sale (POS) procedures.
  • Execute merchandising tasks such as freight handling, re‑merchandising, and price markdowns.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and shoppable store.
  • Provide feedback to Store Manager and leadership on merchandise handling concerns.
  • Report policy violations and teammate or Guest concerns in a timely, confidential manner.
  • Apply Buckle’s Code of Ethics and all Buckle policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Internship Duties
  • Complete Teammate Orientation, Beginning Leadership, and Recruiting, Interviewing and Hiring sections of the Buckle Management Manual.
  • Provide weekly reports and progress updates to the Area Manager and District Manager.
  • Learn Buckle’s products, sales presentation and merchandising process.
  • Manage a product category: set sales goals, educate teammates and track results.
  • Lead and motivate the team through performance tracking tools (e.g., Denim Brand, Tops, Accessories, Shoes, Buckle Card, Activewear, Outerwear, Swimwear).
  • Develop recruiting, merchandising and leadership skills.
  • Participate monthly in conference calls.
  • Own assigned projects and maintain high service levels.
  • Fulfill the mission statement by providing excellent customer service and contributing to a positive team spirit.
