This position is open to Colorado state residents only. Vacancies located within 30 miles of the state border are exempt from the residency requirement. Therefore, applications from Colorado residents and non‑residents may be considered for positions located in Sterling.
LocationThis position is located in Sterling, CO. The posting may be used to fill future vacancies at this location.
Responsibilities- Document patient information accurately and in a timely manner to create comprehensive medical records
- Provide standardized patient education within established nursing guidelines
- Transcribe medical orders and reports at shift change
- Preserve confidentiality of all patient information
- Deliver physical care and treatments, administer medications, collaborate on treatment plans, employ infection control measures, refer to Clinical Services staff for new arrivals, provide crisis intervention, conduct interviews and triage offenders, and perform instruction and orientation
- Assist physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners with minor medical and surgical procedures
- Order and restock medications and supplies
- Participate in restraining offenders for medical reasons as required
- Administer PO, IM, IV, SQ, SL medications to offenders in medication lines, infirmaries, specialized cell houses, and PRN
- Observe and report the physical and emotional condition of offenders, including medication effectiveness during emergencies
- Ensure safety and security of the clinical environment through vigilant observations and contraband control, including counting syringes, needles, narcotics, instruments, and key control
- Operate a variety of clinical equipment as dictated by the work unit
- Follow all Life Safety policies and procedures applicable to the work unit
- Report violations of security or safety to the supervisor via written reports
- Attend required training programs, including a 2‑day self‑defense course
- Work any shift, weekends, and holidays as required
- Current, valid license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) from the Colorado Board of Nursing or an eNLC‑participating state
- Complete and accurate work‑experience section on application; "See resume" statements are not accepted
- Self‑control and ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations
- Alertness, emotional stability, and mental resilience under pressure; observant throughout shift
- Tolerance to stress, confinement, and high‑stakes interaction
- Effective treatment of offenders in diverse settings
- Adherence to patient‑confidentiality standards
- Response to emergency situations involving offenders and/or medical emergencies
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficiency in reading, speaking, and writing English
- Ability to create accessible documents following plain‑language guidelines
- Strong decision‑making and discernment skills
- Follow instructions and pay attention to detail
- Availability to work a variety of shifts on a full‑time basis
- Intravenous (IV) Certification
- Long‑term and acute care experience
- Experience as an LPN in a correctional environment
- Must be 18 years of age
- Hold a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record per Colorado HR policies
- Possess a high school diploma or GED
- No felony convictions; strict background checks
