The Nurse III (Nurse Supervisor) supervises, guides, and directs professional nursing care for incarcerated offenders in outpatient clinic, infirmary, or specialized cell house settings for acute care, chronic support, and emergency assessment/interventions. May supervise a smaller clinic, a shift within a larger facility, or a specialized clinical unit. May be required to work any shift, weekends, holidays, and perform nurse on-call or call-back duties.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Document patient records (handwritten or electronic) accurately and timely.
- Deliver patient education, self-care techniques, and information about medications and side effects; address offender concerns.
- Provide patient care tailored to offenders’ diagnoses and needs in clinic, infirmary, or cell house settings.
- Perform routine and emergency physical and emotional assessments during triage, sickline, and emergencies using nursing skills and protocols.
- Promote safety and security of the clinical environment, including inventory control of syringes, needles, narcotics, instruments, and key control.
- Manage payroll, scheduling, and Performance Management Plans; oversee 8-16 hours per day of shift responsibilities; coordinate staff orientation; assist in hiring and disciplinary considerations.
- Recommend, implement, and monitor compliance with policies; function as on-call supervisor and arrange coverage/approve overtime.
- Current, valid Registered Nurse license from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)

- Three (3) years of full-time experience providing patient care as a Registered Nurse. Work experience less than full time will be prorated.
