Position Description

Description Of Job:
The Nurse III (Nurse Supervisor) position supervises, guides, and directs professional skilled nursing care for the incarcerated offender in either an outpatient clinic, infirmary, or specialized cell house setting for acute care, chronic support and emergency assessment and interventions as indicated. This position may be a unit supervisor responsible for a smaller clinic, a shift within a larger complex facility, or a supervisor in a specialized clinical treatment unit.

This position may be required to work any shift, weekends, and holidays, and to perform nurse on-call or call-back duties.

Responsibilities
  • Documents both handwritten or electronically in an accurate and timely manner to provide comprehensive inmate medical records.
  • Delivers patient education including self-care techniques, potential complications, medication and treatment side effects, and addressing offender concerns.
  • Delivers patient care in a clinic, infirmary, or specialized cell house setting individualized to offenders' diagnoses and needs.
  • Performs routine and emergency physical and emotional assessments of inmates during triage, sickline, and emergency situations using basic nursing skills, physical assessment skills, and nursing protocols.
  • Promotes safety and security of the clinical environment through observations and contraband control, including counting syringes, needles, narcotics, instruments, and key control.
  • Responsible for payroll, scheduling, and Performance Management Plans (PMP); accountable for completion of shift responsibilities for 8-16 hours per day; acts as point person for daily operations and decisions; assigns nursing staff, coordinates staff orientation, and assists in hiring, promotions, and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Recommends, implements, and monitors compliance with policies and procedures; functions as an on-call supervisor and arranges for coverage and overtime approval.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current, valid license as a Registered Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
