Description of Job

This posting establishes an eligibility list for the location at Sterling, CO.

Responsibilities
  • Planning, directing, and maintaining delivery of mental health services, assuring compliance with mental health guidelines, and managing appropriate use of resources.
  • Coordinating with facility administration and staff, and with other clinical administrators, regarding the mental health needs of offenders; establishing treatment plans for treatment and management of mental illness or special needs populations.
  • Providing training regarding mental health needs and issues; directing management of psychiatric crises and emergencies.
  • Supervising, organizing, reviewing, and evaluating staff work for competency and efficiency; recommending hiring and corrective action of assigned staff with accurate, timely, and appropriate documentation.
  • Maintaining the standard of care compliance with all applicable mental health standards; interfacing between the mental health clinical program/unit and Clinical Services administration, other CDOC departments/facilities, and outside agencies.
  • Facilitating communication to assure staff receives clear accurate and congruent information on a consistent basis; facilitating team building within the unit and between the clinical program and other CDOC departments.
  • Responsible for payroll entry and solving problems for day‑to‑day mental health operations of assigned unit or program.
  • Acting as a consultant and providing training to facility, community, and state service providers on issues related to treating incarcerated offenders diagnosed with mental illness or other special needs populations.
  • Participating in formal and informal mental health evaluations, assessing psychiatric and developmental disability levels; providing group, brief, and individual therapy, and crisis intervention, including participation in 24‑hour mental health on‑call rotation.
  • Maintaining required credentials, including licensure and certifications required for specialized practice such as sex offender treatment or domestic violence.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid, active license from the State of Colorado as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
  • Two (2) years of licensed or license candidacy experience with the mental health and/or sex offender population, and current valid licensure.

  • Ability to remain alert, emotionally stable, and mentally resilient under pressure and observant throughout their shift.
  • Tolerance to stress, confinement, and high‑stakes interaction.
  • Advanced knowledge and a thorough understanding of mental health standards and guidelines.
  • Ability to continuously expand knowledge base through continuing education of innovative clinical techniques and research.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across facility programs and with external agencies.
  • Strong leadership and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend English.
  • Ability to effectively communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing.
